TEENS HELPING TEENS

Kendra’s Walk is an annual event that was created in 2009 by Kendra McBain. Kendra’s mission was to raise awareness and support other teens with cancer. Even after her passing in 2009, her legacy is continued through Kendra’s Walk and other fundraising initiatives. Kendra’s Walk is organized by teens, for teens. To date, Kendra’s Walk has raised over $1 million, with all proceeds going to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

kendra's tea party 2024: a recap

Introducing this year's spring fundraiser event, Kendra's Tea Party! On April 20th, 2024, we organized an afternoon of treats, refreshments, a speaker, activities, and more to honour Kendra McBain's legacy, raise money for cancer research, and spread awareness about what countless people and their families go through following a cancer diagnosis.

Attendees of Kendra's Tea Party were provided with treats that were generously donated by the local bakery Flour & Flower, as well as teas that were donated by the local small business A Little Art Boutique

games+activities

During the second portion of the afternoon, the attendees played a game of Bingo. Activities such as bracelet making and origami were provided and enjoyed as well.

Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Ashley Chopek graciously agreed to give a presentation on the services that are provided by CancerCare Manitoba. Additionally, she spoke on the experience that patients and families go through following a cancer diagnosis.

The 2025 Kendra's Walk committee is pleased to announce that on May 22, 2025, the 17th annual Kendra's Walk will be held in support of Cancer Care Manitoba and in memory of Kendra McBain. Please join us at St. John's-Ravenscourt School, 400 South Drive, to help us raise funds and awareness for teens living with cancer. Bring your friends, your family, spirit, amd all the purple you can find to help us honour Kendra McBain's legacy.

World Cancer Day is an international day marked on 4 February to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. The Kendra's Walk Committee encourages everyone to stand together, and take intitiative towards creating a better future for all.

Want to get involved in Kendra's Walk? Tomorrow is our first volunteer committee meeting!! We will be sharing some volunteer opportunities and discussing events in the year to come 💜

Kendra’s Kanteen will be set-up in front of the Senior School student lounge every Thursday during flex time! Today due to exams, we will be on the first floor outside the senior school office. We will be taking both cash and e-transfer as forms of payment.

We are excited to introduce our tape the teachers fundraising event! It will take place at assembly (11:35-12:15) on Tuesday, May 21st. Please remember to bring cash or coins in order to tape Mr Danowski, Mr Currie, and Mr Cooney to the walls!!

Today on World Cancer Day, we stand in solidarity with those who have been affected by cancer. Together, we can raise awareness and take action in the fight against cancer by offering them our love and support.

Thank you to everyone who participated or helped with Kendra’s Walk 2023! Without you, the walk would not be possible.

After 15 years, Kendra’s Walk has raised over $1 million in support of @cancercarembfdn and in honour of Kendra. We are forever grateful to the people, schools, organizations, and of course, the SJR community, who supported the walk this year.

We want to thank everyone who walked with us last Friday, volunteered at the walk, attended Kendra’s Konference, purchased items from our merch store, baked something for our bake-off, or donated to the Kendra’s Walk Foundation fund. There are so many ways to make a difference, so stay tuned next year for even more ways to get involved!

Recapping Kendra’s Walk 2023!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the KW spirit week, the Kendra’s Walk Bake-Off, Kendra’s Konference, and the walk itself! This compilation features some great spirit day outfits, lots of community spirit, and lots of purple!

It’s the day of Kendra’s Walk! 🎗️

The Purple Room will be open from 9 am to 1 pm in the Senior School student lounge. We have lots of KW merch, candy, and fun items for sale!

There will also be a sticky note wall (where you can write the name of the person you’re walking for today), and a photo wall (where you can take pictures and polaroids with your friends).

To show your spirit and support for the walk, feel free to take pictures today and post them using the hashtag #kendraswalk.

Please join us at 1:15 pm at the front of SJR to walk in solidarity for teens living with cancer and celebrate Kendra’s legacy. There will be a $2 donation collection in classes at the beginning of the day.

The Purple Room will be open on Friday from 9 am to 1 pm in the Senior School student lounge. Feel free to come by and check out our collection of fun purple items (candy, vintage KW merch, bubbles, face paint, toys, jewellry, and lots more), photo wall, and sticky note wall!
